Movie sequels really seem to be driving themselves up a cul-de-sac title-wise these days. For example, after last year’s The Final Destination pretty much just added ‘the’ to the name of the first movie, the planned fifth one has got so stuck it’s currently going by the hideous 5nal Destination. The Fast And The Furious franchise did the same thing, pretty much going back to the beginning with the name Fast & Furious for the fourth one. As a they’ve run out of perumatation on the words ‘fast’ and ‘furious’, so the fifth one is currently just known as Fast Five. Hopefully that’ll change as it sound like an Enid Blyton action movie, but I wouldn’t bet on it.
We already knew both Paul Walker and Vin Diesel were returning for the film, and a couple of months ago rumours surfaced that Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson was sniffing around the Fast & Furious franchise. Now those reports appear to have been confirmed, with Fast Five co-star Tyrese Gibson tweeting, ‘Major shouts to Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, & Dwayne “Rock” Johnson!! “Fast & Furious Five” Let’s get em again!!’ Since that tweet, Collider went to work, cconfirming The Rock casting via their sources.
Gibson’s message suggests wasn’t just random, as it came at the beginning of filming. That start date prompted another new actor, Ludacris, to tweet that he’s, ‘Just landed in Puerto Rico. Shooting for Fast & Furious 5 is about to be underway…..’, which seems to suggest that after appearing in the second Fast & Furious movie, he’ll be back for the fifth.
Fast Five is due in cinemas June 2011, directed by Justin Lin.
