While there’s been a huge amount of news, some definite and some rumour, in the last few weeks about X-Men: First Class, precious little of it has talked about who the villain will be. We do know from the official synopsis that the film is about the friendship between a young Charles Xavier (Professor X – Jame McAvoy) and Erik Lenscherr (Magneto – Michael Fassbender) as they set up a school for mutants, and how the greatest threat the world has ever known splits them apart, however there’s been no info on what that threat is.
Well, while there’s still no info on what character the villain of the piece will be, we do have some info on who might play him. Deadline is reporting that an offer has gone out to Kevin Bacon to play the main bad guy. As yet a final deal hasn’t been pieced together, but he would seem a strong addition to a cast which also inclues Alice Eve, Nicholas Hoult, Caleb Landry Jones and Lucas Till (reports Aaron Johnson will play Cyclops are still unconfirmed, with some sources saying it isn’t true). Matthew Vaughn will direct.
So who is the villain of the piece? /Film is suggesting it’ll be Mister Sinister, although this is based on little more than what would seem to make sense for Bacon to play. If so, Bacon will be a scientific genius, granted superhuman powers by genetic manipulation, who’s able to give himself new abilities by adding the DNA of other mutants to his own.
