For the past few months, Tomas Alfredson, director of the acclaimed Let The Right One In, has been working on his English-language debut (after a few false starts with other projects), with an adaptation of John Le Carre’s classic spy novel, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.
Last month, it was announced Gary Oldman would take the lead role of retired MI6 agent Geroge Smilie, who’s called back in to serve when a senior agent is suspected of being a Russian mole. At the time it was also said Michael Fassbender, Colin Firth and David Thewlis would also star, and while a new report from Variety makes no mention of Thewlis, it confirms Oldman, Fassbender and Firth, while adding Ralph Fiennes into the mix, ensuring this really will be a meeting on British acting heavyweights.
There’s no news on what roles anyone except Oldman will be playing, although Alfredson is due to start shooting the movie in London in October, with the film due for release towards the end of 2011.
