Denzel Washington sure likes making thrillers. In fact he can’t seem to keep away from them, as eight of his last 10 movies have been in that territory. And with Tony Scott’s upcoming runaway train flick Unstoppable already in the bag, it looks like Denzel is now lining up his next dip into thriller territory with Safe House. Vulture reports that the star is currently in negotiations to star in the film.
Back in February David Guggenheim’s script for the film was the subject of a major bidding war, before it was eventually purchased by Universal. Set in South America, Denzel would play a newly arrived prisoner who has to go on the run with a US intelligence officer, after their safe house comes under attack.
As yet there doesn’t seem to be anyone lined up as the intelligence officer, or indeed a director, but if Universal is at the stage of negotiating for a star like Denzel to come onboard, it’s likely the other pieces of the puzzle will fall into place relatively quickly.
