In what looks like it could be a rather intriguing project, THR reports that Ridley Scott, Youtube and Kevin MacDonald have teamed up for what is being described as the world’s first user-generated feature, called Life In A Day. According to State of Play helmer MacDonald, who will direct the documentary, “Life in a Day is a time capsule that will tell future generations what it was like to be alive on the 24th of July 2010. It is a unique experiment in social filmmaking, and what better way to gather a limitless array of footage than to engage the world’s online community.”
Basically the idea is that people all across the world should film a snapshot of their lives on July 24th and then upload it to the Life In A Day Youtube channel. The producers will also be send out camera to some of the most remote areas of the world, to try and grab as representative a sample of people’s life experiences as possible. Once that’s done, they’ll go through all the footage and select the most interesting clips, which will be turned into a documentary that will premiere at next year’s Sundance Film Festival, and will also be available for free on YouTube.
Anyone can upload footage – although it must have been shot on July 24th – and as well as unsual life experiences, the makers hope it will be a platform that supports individual storytelling, expression and experiementation. Ridley Scott will produce through his Scott Free Productions.
It’s certainly an intriguing idea, and could result in a pretty interesting film. If you want more details on how to get involved, head over to www.youtube.com/lifeinaday.
