As it’s been the Independence Day holiday weekend in the US, there hasn’t been a huge amount of casting news emanating from Hollywood, although we have learned that Gina Gershon, Robert Patrick and Danny Glover have joined the indie flick Five Minarets In New York, while Law and Order actress Elisabeth Röhm has signed on for John Singleton’s Abduction.
The Five Minarets news comes via THR, who say that rather than being the rom-com it sounds like, it’s the English-language debut of Turkish writer/director Mahsun Kirmizigul. Gershon will play the lead of Maria, the wife of a Turkish scholar who is arrested by federal authorities after being wrongfully accused of a crime. Sounds like its going to cover some weighty post-9/11 themes. However there’s no news on the parts Danny Glover and Robert Patrick will play, or indeed when it’ll start shooting.
Meanwhile THR is also reporting that Elisabeth Röhm, best known as ADA Serena Southerlyn in Law & Order and more recently as Lauren Gilmore in Heroes, has signed on to John Singleton’s Adbuction. She’s due to play Taylor Lautner’s ‘mother’, with the inverted commas there because Taylor discovers his baby photos on a missing photos website and comes to believe his parent aren’t really his parents. Emily Mortimer was initially down for the role, but she’s had to drop out. The film starts shooting next week, with Lily Collins, Maria Bello, Jason Isaacs and Alfred Molina also amongst the cast.
