Shooting started this week on Scream 4, which has resulted in a wave of casting announcements, as well as people having to drop out due to scheduling problems (both Lake Bell and Lauren Graham have gone). However it’s now believed the movie has pretty much rounded out its cast, with THR announcing that Mad Men and Community actress Alison Brie has joined the cast, with Variety adding that Mary McDonnell is also onboard.
The film catches up with Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette’s characters 10 years on, with Sidney now having somewhat reluctantly embraced her fame (which has continued due to the never-ending film-within-a-film Stab movies), by writing popular books. There’ll also be a new generation of potential murder victims, led by Emma Roberts, along with Hayden Panettiere, Rory Culkin, Nico Tortorella and Erik Knudsen.
Brie is coming onboard as Rebecca, Campbell’s personal assistant, who secretly envies her boss’ fame and fortune. There’s no news on who McDonnell will play, although as Lauren Graham dropped out from playing the role of the mother of Emma Roberts’ character, it would make sense if she was stepping into that part.
Scream 4, which will once again be directed by Wes Craven, hits cinemas next April.
