Doesn’t a film starring Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep as husband and wife sound like a great idea? Well, it seems it’s likely to happen, as The Playlist has picked up on a report by Production Weekly that the duo are busy finalising deals to star in Great Hope Springs, the latest directing effort from screenwriter Jessie Nelson (who previously made I Am Sam back in 2001).
The film is about a couple, played by Streep and Bridges, who attend a weekend of intensive counselling in an effort to save their marriage. However while Philip Seymour Hoffman had been attached to play the therapist, he’s had to leave due to scheduling problems, although it’s difficult to imagine that with Streep and Bridges set, the director will have too much problem finding an actor willing to play opposite them.
Quite frankly I don’t know why Meryl and Jeff haven’t teamed up before, as they would seem the perfect pairing. Perhaps after spending most of the early part of this year attending the same awards shows as nomineess, they just decided it was time to bite the bullet and make a movie together.
