Rather like another Scandinvian creation for children, Moomins, it’s tough to see what it is about The Happy Troll Dolls that’s made them so popular, however the demonic looking little Danish things with crazy hair have been around since 30s, and from the 60s to the 90s became popular all over the world.
However in the last few years they’ve been in decline, but that may be about to change, as Dreamworks Animation has just bought the rights to produce a Happy Troll Dolls movie, which would launch the toys on a new generation. It’s still early days so there’s little news on what direction Dreamworks is planning for the movie, although Variety says the studio will expand on the Troll’s mythology (who knew they had a mythology, seeing as they spend most of their lives as keyrings or pencil-toppers). However siblings Adam Wilson and Melanie Wilson LaBracio are the one charged with finding that story, as they’ll be writing the script
It won’t be the dolls’ first movie appearance wither, as they also show up in the opening sequence of Toy Story 3. However, quite frankly they’re horrible, so why anyone would want an entire movie about them is anybody’s guess.
