While for quite a long time we’ve known Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides would involve Jack Sparrow looking for the Fountain Of Youth, and that Blackbeard, his daughter, a missionary and some mermaids would be involved, but there’s been absolutely no official info on how this all fits together.
Now Disney had issued a press release to announce the start of filming on the movie, which also includes the first proper info on the plot. It may not be much, but at least it lets us know the direction they’re heading. Here’s what it’s got to say…
“Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides captures the fun, adventure and humor that ignited the hit franchise this time in Disney Digital 3D(TM). In this action-packed tale of truth, betrayal, youth and demise, Captain Jack Sparrow crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz), and hes not sure if its loveor if shes a ruthless con artist whos using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Annes Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesnt know who to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman from his past.
“(Geoffrey) Rush reprises his role as the vengeful Captain Hector Barbossa, and Kevin R. McNally returns as Captain Jacks longtime comrade Joshamee Gibbs. (Sam) Claflin stars as a stalwart missionary, while (Astrid) Berges-Frisbey is transformed into a mysterious mermaid.”
The movie is currently filming in Hawaii, before moving on to location and studio work in the UK and Los Angeles. It’ll reach cinemas May 20th, 2011.
