We should first preface this with saying that this story originated in The Sun, so you’ll have to use your own judgement as to how trustworthy you think that makes it, but they’re saying Secret Diary Of A Call Girl, the Billie Piper series based on the pseudonomous writings of high class hooker turned pensmith Belle De Jour, is in the early stages of getting a movie makeover.
The Sun quote Piper, who’s currently finishing up the fourth series of the show, as saying “I’m not sure it has legs past four seasons, so we’re trying to develop a movie.” The idea of turning the series into a film may be less unexpected than you’d think, as the show has become a hit over the pond after airing on the Showtime channel, with Americans responding to its tale of a university-educated professional struggling to make ends meet, who turns to being an escort in order to make some much needed cash. Well, okay, they probably responded to the titilating subject matter, but it still means it’s more likely for a film version than you might otherwise expect.
It may just be Piper’s pie in the sky idea, but if true it could work well and certainly give her a springboard to getting more work Stateside.
