After the Clive Cussler adaptation Sahara bombed with a giant, almighty thud, it looked like that was it for Breck Eisner as a tentpole director, but following the success of The Crazies, he’s been attaching himself to some very high profile projects. He’s currently gearing up for a remake of Escape From New York, is due to take on Flash Gordon and is even tinkering with a new version of David Cronenberg’s The Brood.
Now it seems he’s become enamoured with something else, the 1986 indie comic book Blood Of The Innocent, which is basically all about a match-up between Dracula and Jack the Ripper. But why are they fighting? Surely they’d get along, given their penchant for leaving women in a far worse state than when they found them?
Well, not in the comic, and according to Fear.net (who spoke to Blood Of The Innocent co-writer Mark Wheatley), Eisner is so intrigued by the idea after hearing the pitch by Bill Marsilii that he’s attached himself as director, and are now going around to various studios looking for backing.
That means it’s still early days, and to be honest the concept might even be too cheesy for Hollywood, but we’ll have to wait and see.
