This is one of those news stories that it’s almost our duty to report, even though it’s not based on anything substantial and doesn’t tells us anything we wouldn’t have expected to be true anyway. However, Hollywood Life is reporting they’ve got and exclusive saying that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Christopher Nolan’s first choice to play The Riddler in the sequel to The Dark Knight.
The site quotes a source as saying, Chris really dug Joseph [as an actor]. There was a joke at first between them [on the set of Inception] that Joseph wanted to read for Batman 3 and things heated up as filming continued… Its not 100% confirmed that hes getting [the role of The Riddler] but theres certainly talk about it. Joseph is definitely on the short list.
Well, thanks for that, as assuming The Riddler is in Batman 3 (which hasn’t been officially confirmed, but is more than likely), it would be stranger if Levitt wasn’t on the shortlist. After all, he worked with Nolan on Inception, is very hot right now, and is the sort of casting choice that’s been a hallmark of the director’s run with the Caped Crusader. So like I said, it’s almost our duty to report that rumour is out there, but at the end of the day it tells us pretty much nothing, as it’s not like they’re even saying that he’s got the role.
