With shooting due to begin soon on Captain America: The First Avenger, they’re busy putting the finishing touches on the main cast, with Marvel Studios announcing that they’ve signed up Stanley Tucci to play Dr. Abraham Erskine in the film.
As the press release (via /Film) says, ‘In the early comics, Dr. Erskine was a German scientist behind Project Rebirth, the secret experiment that created the Super Soldier known as Captain America.’ He’s the one who creates the sup serum that turns Steve Rogers into the perfect physical specimen, and so in the movie is likely to work along Tony Stark’s dad, who it’s believed will also feature as part of the project to create Captain America.
While there are still those worried about that fact Joe Johnston is directing, as the likes of Wolfman and Jurassic Park III aren’t exactly masterpieces, there’s little doubt the film has an increasingly good cast, with Chris Evans in the lead role and support from the likes of Hugo Weaving, Tommy Lee Jones, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stand and Neal McDonagh. The film will hit cinemas July 11th, 2011.
