A few weeks ago it was rumoured Stephen Graham, Max Irons and Sam Claflin were in talks to join Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Since then Sam Claflin’s involvement has been confirmed, beating out Max Irons to the role of youthful missionary Philip (Max doesn’t need to cry too much though, as since then he’s signed up for The Girl With The Red Riding Hood), and now comes confirmation of Graham’s role.
As rumoured, Variety says that Graham will play Jack Sparrow’s sidekick, Scram. The character is also described as being a ‘machiavellian pirate’, so it may turn out he’s not the best sidekick for Jack. The movie centres of Jack’s journey to find the Fountain Of Youth, during which he gets caught up dealing with Blackbeard (Ian McShane) and his daughter (Penelope Cruz).
Liverpool born Graham has worked with Johnny Depp before on Public Enemies, as well as being seen in the likes of The Damned United, Inkheart, This Is England, Gangs Of New York and Snatch.
Shooting begins on the film this month in Hawaii, with Rob Marshall directing.
