After a brief flurry of major roles in the late 90s, many thought Paul Rudd had had his shot at the big time and failed. However thanks to finding a place in the new generation of comedy actors in movies like The 40-Year Old Virgin and I Love You Man, his career has rise exponentially in the last few years. Now it seems he’s got a new role up his sleeve, with THR reporting that he’s signed up to star in My Idiot Brother.
Rudd will be the titular idiot brother, an idealist dealing with an overbearing mother, who crashes into the homes of his three sisters. While he turns their lives upside-down, he also brings truth and happiness to their lives. There’s no word on who will play the sisters, but they’d better cast them soon, as production is due to begin in New York in July.
The movie will be directed by Rudd’s long-term friend, Jesse Peretz, with the script written by Jesse’s sister Evgenia (suggesting it’s the director who is the real idiot brother) and David Schisgall.
