Here’s the latest casting news coming out of Hollywood…
The cast of Real Steel is slowly coming together, with Hope Davis, James Rebhorn and Olga Fonda joining the already onboard Hugh Jackman, Dakota Goya, Evangeline Lilly, Kevin Durand and Anthony Mackie. There’s no news on what role the new additions will play, but Shawn Levy’s film will follow a former boxer (Jackman) who was washed out of the sport when robots took over in the ring. He then turns promoter and bonds with his estranged son (Goya) when they try and make a broken down bot a champion. (Source: Variety)
Adam Beach, who’s popped up in the likes of Flags Of Our Father, Windtalkers and more recently in Big Love, has joined the cast of Cowboys & Alien, Jon Favreau’s flick about a lone gunslinger (Daniel Craig), who must help a wild west town when it’s attacked by aliens intent on adbucting the populace. To do this he must get the cowboys to stop fighting the indians and instead team up to take on the new foe. Beach is the first actor we’ve heard about on the native American side, as he’s a Saulteaux Indian from Manitoba, Canada. He’ll join Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde, Sam Rockwell and Paul Dano in the film, which starts shooting this summer. (Source: Variety)
It seems young Swedish actress Katia Winter’s plan to move to America earlier this year is paying off, as she’s been cast in Deathgames, opposite Kellan Lutz and Samuel L. Jackson. The film is about a young man (Lutz) who is kidnapped and forced into the savage world of modern gladiator fighting, in which men battle to the death for the entertainment of the online masses, in games orchestrated by Jackson. Winter will go a bit femme fatale as a woman employed by Jackson to lure potential gladiators. However she eventually falls for Lutz and helps him out. The film is currently shooting under the direction of visual effects whiz Jonah Loop. (Source: THR)
There were lots of rumours floating around yesterday that Lost star Josh Holloway was up for a major role in a Marvel movie, although there was no news what part it was or which film it would be (nevertheless that didn’t stop people speculating it could be anyone from Ant-man to Hawkeye). However ComicBookMovie actually went to the trouble of contacting Holloway’s reps, who confirmed that ‘this is just a rumour’. Of course in Hollywood speak that doesn’t mean no, but it probably doesn’t mean yes either. (Source: ComicBookMovie)
Paul Thomas Anderson is not a man to give up. Due to the type of films he makes (Magnolia, There Will Be Blood), each one is a struggle to get financed, and into theatres. His latest, The Master, is currently in limbo after Universal (who it was initially set up with) passed on it and cast it into the wilderness. The film is about a a cult/faith-based organisation leader, whose religion mushrooms in the 1950s, with the film focussing on his relationship with a drifter called Freddie, who becomes his right-hand-man before splits start to appear. Anderson’s still got Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Jeremy Renner on board for the main roles, and now he’s lining up some actresses to make the film more appealing to potential investors. Apparently an offer is out to Reese Witherspoon to play Mary-Sue, the wife of ‘the master’, although it’s not known if she’s likely to acceptt. The other major female role is their daughter, Elizabeth, with Amanda Seyfried, Emma Stone and Deborah Ann Woll all currently being considered for that part. However even if he does line up a great cast, Anderson’s gonna have problems making the movie without any money. (Source: ThePlaylist)
