Ever since Shanghai was first mooted, it’s been an intriguing but unusual proposition, with John Cusack re-teaming with the director of 1408, Mikael Hafstrom, for a film about an American in Japanese-occupied Shanghai in 1941, who gets caught up in an ever deepening web of mystery after his friend is killed, and comes to realise that perhaps it’s all connected to Japanese boats ‘disappearing’, as well as Hawaii’s Pearl Harbor. With a mix of American, European and Asian talent, including Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chow Yun-Fat, Gong Li, Ken Watanabe, Franka Potente, David Morse and Hugh Bonneville, it’s certainly one to watch out for. The first international trailer has now arrived, so take a look below.
