All I can say is that Jack The Giant Killer had better be worth it. Bryan Singer has set aside, stepped down from directing or delayed lots of far more interesting sounding movies, including X-Men: First Class, Excalibur and and Battlestar Galactica, so he can concentrate on his fairytale adaptation, in which Jack is a young farmer given the opportunity to venture into the land of the giants to rescue a kidnapped princess.
When Singer stepped down from directing X-Men: First Class, it was because Jack The Giant Killer was going to shoot this summer, but now it’s been announced the entire production has been put back, with shooting not expected to start now until February 2011. THR suggests the reason is because Singer wants more time to work out the special effects, and intends to pre-viz the entire effect heavy movie before he actually starts shooting. He also intends to use a system similar to what Speilberg had on AI, where he’ll be able to see a rough version of the final shot on his monitor (showing the giants and CG backgrounds etc.) as the live action actors play opposite them in front of green screens.
They also report that he’s quietly started the process of finding a leading man, and that both Aaron Johnson and Andrew Garfield have had meetings about the film. That’s a long way from saying either will get the role, but it seems they’re in the running.
