Although nothing’s been signed as yet, it seems Christian Bale is seriously interested in taking the lead role in the revenge drama The Revenant, while The Road director John Hillcoat will direct.
The new comes via Bloody Disgusting, in an interview with Vacancy screenwriter Mark L. Smith. He told them that he’s been hired to write “The Revenant, which is a period action/revenge piece that Anonymous Content is producing. John Hillcoat is attached to direct, and Christian Bale is in talks to star.”
It’s good news for Aussie director Hillcoat, who was highly praised for 2005’s The Proposition, but had his post-apocalyptic The Road delayed for nearly a year, and when it came out it received far less praise than had been hoped for. He then spent ages trying to get The Promised Land off the ground, but despite a fair amount of interest, it fell apart at the financing stage.
The Revenant is about the true story of a man who is left for dead after a bear attack, but survives and is so angry that his friend left him behind, he sets out on a 3,000-mile-long mission of vengeance.
