The words ‘produced by Michael Bay’, should strike fear in any movie fan’s heart. While his directorial efforts may be dumb, they are at least explosive enough to be watchable, but as a producer he has a knack for taking good ideas and screwing them up royally, which he’s done with everything from remakes of Amityville Horror, The Hitcher and Nightmare on Elm Street to The Unborn and Friday the 13th. Now it seems he’s got a new project to mess up, with Variety reporting that Paramount has bought the rights to Gideon’s Sword, for Bay to produce.
The film will be based on an upcoming book by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, to be published nect February. This would seem a good fit, as Preston and Child are kind of the Michael Bay of the literary world – immensely stupid but kind of fun in an OTT way. It’s said to be the first in a series of books, although as yet, there’s no word on the actual plot. However as previous Preston and Child books have focussed on everything from Egyptian curses coming back to life and bizarre serial killers to pirate treasure and a quest for the lost city of gold, they certainly write the sort of books that might peak Bay’s interest.
However with a title like Gideon’s Sword, we can only hope the seuxal innuendo ends at the title. Oh and Michael, try not to screw this one up.
