Frank Marshall, who first made his name producing movies for Steven Spielberg, before becoming the director of the likes of Arachnophobia, Alive and Congo, has a new film in his sights, based on Robert Ludlum’s spy thrillers, Covert One.
Well, they’re sort of Robert Ludlum’s spy thrillers, as while he started them off in 2000, they’ve continued on since the author’s death in 2001, with various different people actually writing the books. The novels are about a team of political and technical experts belonging to a top-secret US Agency, who fight sorruption and conspiracy at the highest levels. With the Bourne franchise currently stalled, it looks like a good opportunity to launch another series based on Ludlum books, with this one basically being about a team of Bournes, although presumably they won’t have all lost their memory.
Pajiba is reporting that Marshall will direct the film, marking his first helming assignment since Eight Below, presuming he doesn’t manage to get his planned Lance Armstrong biopic going first.
