Montecito, the production company run by Ghostbusters producer Ivan Reitman, along with Tom Pollock and Joe Medjuck, have shelled out to buy Jordan Cahan’s script pitch Field Trip, with Paramount and Walden Media agreeing to co-fund development on the project.
While the story is being kept a bit of a secret, THR says it ‘is known to involve time travel, a high school teacher and his students.’ Time travel comedy is something Hollywood keeps trying, despite the fact both Land Of The Lost and Hot Tub Time Machine failed to find success at the box office. Maybe they think if they just keep going, one day they’re bound to get it right.
There’s no news on whether Reitman plans to direct, although it’s a fairly safe bet he’ll keep an eye on it through development and jump on board if he likes the results. Hopefully though, before then he’ll actually make Ghostbusters 3, so that it doesn’t continue seeming to be, as Bill Murray recently put it, ‘a myth’.
