Clive Owen is one of the few actors around who can be as successful in a silly throaway action flick as he is in more weighty, Oscar-bating fare. While he seems to like to alternate between the two, at the moment he’s on a bit of an action binge, with production about the begin on The Killer Elite and now news coming via Screen International that he’s signed up for a movie called Medallion.
Based on a screenplay by David Guggenheim, Owen will play a bank robber who’s just got out of prison, and only has six hours to play a $50 million ransom after a former accomplice kidnaps his daughter and put her in the trunk of one of New York’s 12,000 yellow cabs. However he only get to find out which cab if he pays the money.
I expect we can rely on plenty of action and a bit of a Taken vibe with the film, which producers are currently trying to sell at Cannes. Shooting is scheduled to begin in the Big Apple this autumn.
