Yesterday we reported that attached to prints of Iron Man 2 in the US will be a trailer for a secret, previously unheard of movie called Super 8. While it’s known it has something to do with Star Trek director JJ Abrams, everything’s being kept so hush-hush that no one knows what the movie is. Unsurprisingly the combination of Abrams and a trailer for a secret movie led some to suspect the film was a prequel/sequel to Coverfield (which was also announced to an unsuspecting public via a teaser, before anyone knew what it was).
One of those saying vehemently it was Cloverfield related was Vulture, who even claimed to know what the trailer consisted of and that it was definitely a prequel/sequel to the monster movie (which I won’t print here, in case some of their details are correct and you don’t want to know, but CLICK HERE to see what they said).
However this led Abrams himself speak out, telling Vulture that, “You have to check [out the trailer]. But it has nothing whatsoever to do with Cloverfield, despite your expert reporting.” However when asked what it is about, Abrams said, “I wont be able to tell you until its done”.
Whether that means he hasn’t decided yet or it’s some sort of weird project where you can’t really tell what it’s all about until you assemble the pieces, who knows? Or maybe to prevent procrastination he’s taken to releasing trailers before he’s actually decided what movie to make (that said, it’s unlikely he’ll direct this one, instead producing).
However, whatever the Super 8 trailer is about, it’ll first be seen at midnights screenings of Iron Man 2 in the US, and should hopefully arrive online shortly afterwards. Although knowing Abrams, the trailer will probably be clear as mud and just raise more questions than it answers.
