With Chris Nolan being obsesssively secret about his upcoming Inception, it was starting to look like you’d actually have to turn up at the cinema to find out what it was about (and even then sign a non-disclosure agreement so you wouldn’t tell anyone else). All Nolan has said is that it ‘takes place within the architecture of the mind’, while the cast have been tying themselves in knots trying not to reveal anything. While there’s been a bit more info, none of it has been official.
Now that’s changed, with Warner Bros. releasing the official plot synopsis for the film.
Here’s the synopsis: Acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan directs an international cast in an original sci-fi actioner that travels around the globe and into the intimate and infinite world of dreams. Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a skilled thief, the absolute best in the dangerous art of extraction, stealing valuable secrets from deep within the subconscious during the dream state, when the mind is at its most vulnerable. Cobb’s rare ability has made him a coveted player in this treacherous new world of corporate espionage, but it has also made him an international fugitive and cost him everything he has ever loved. Now Cobb is being offered a chance at redemption. One last job could give him his life back but only if he can accomplish the impossible-inception. Instead of the perfect heist, Cobb and his team of specialists have to pull off the reverse: their task is not to steal an idea but to plant one. If they succeed, it could be the perfect crime. But no amount of careful planning or expertise can prepare the team for the dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move. An enemy that only Cobb could have seen coming. This summer, your mind is the scene of the crime.
It sounds rather cool, taking the generic elements of a man doing one last job, and giving them an original (and if you’ve seen the trailer slightly surreal), sci-fi action spin. There should be a new trailer arriving Friday that explains much of this, so watch out for it. Inception hits cinemas July 16th. (Via: Cinemablend)
