It seems director Jon Favreau and actor Sam Rockwell must have had a good time making Iron Man 2 as they’ve decided to team up again for Cowboys and Aliens. THR is reporting that the Moon star, who plays Justin Hammer in Iron Man 2, has joined the cast of the wild west sci-fi flick, based on the Platinum Studios graphic novel, which will see him appear alongside Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford and Olivia Wilde.
The film sees a bunch of cowboys and indians, led by former Union Army gunslinger Zeke Johnson (Craig), having to stop fighting one another and team up to take on an alien invasion that descends on a small town. Rockwell will play a bar owner named Doc who joins in the pursuit of the aliens. Apparently it was initially a small role designed for a heavy-set man, but once the writers (Star Trek’s Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, and Lost’s Damon Lindelof) heard about Rockwell’s interest, they reconcieved things and explanded the part.
The movie begins shoot in due, for a summer 2011 release.
