Although it’s been rumoured for a while, it’s now been confirmed that Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor are due to star in the movie The Impossible, set during the tsunami that hit Asia in 2004. The news comes due to the fact that Summit Entertainment has picked up the Worldwide rights to the film.
The movie, directed by The Orphanage’s Juan Antonia Bayona, begins filming in August in Alicante, Spain before moving to Thailand in October. Not too much is known about the plot of the movie, other than it’s based on a true story of people caught up in the devastating tidal wave. However while it’s from the writer and the director of The Orphanage, I think it’s safe to assume it won’t go down the creepy path of that story.
Watts is currently quite popular at Summit, as only last week they picked up the rights to her film Fair Game, about CIA agent Valerie Plame, whose cover was blown by the Bush administration after her husband started questioning the war in Iraq. (Source: THR)
