While Spielberg has spent years trying to get his biopic of Lincoln made, Robert Redford seems to have had far less trouble getting his film about the president’s assassination in the can. Rather than a straight-up biopic, Redford’s movie is about Mary Surratt (Robin Wright Penn), an alleged conspirator in Lincoln’s assasination, who went on trial for her part in the President’s death, due to the fact that the killers stopped off at her tavern to get firearms after the shooting. James McAvoy is the lawyer defending her, who comes to believe she’s only being prosecuted to try and smoke out her son.
Now the first official images from the movie have been released, over at USA Today. The independently financed movie doesn’t yet have a distribtuor, but the hope is to bring it to cinemas before the end of the year. Take a look at the first images below.
