A movie version of Garth Ennis’ comic book series, The Boys, has been in the works for a while now, and there’s been much speculation saying that A Nightmare On Elm Street remake director Samuel Bayer is attached to direct it. However it turns out he may not get the job, as the producers are lining up someone else to stand behind the camera.
Bayer told Film School Rejects that, “Its so funny, I would die to do that comic book. From what Ive heard from the producers on the movie is that Adam McKay is doing it. He did Anchorman, I guess. The studio is really hot on him and Lets have the movie [A Nightmare on Elm Street] come out this weekend and do really well. Then well see how my stock is in Hollywood.”
It would seem a slightly unexpected move for McKay, who until now has stayed decidedly in the comedy arena. However he may be trying to expand his repetoire with The Boys, which is about a CIA-backed team who are charged with keeping an eye on the world’s superheroes. With so much power, the masked vigilantes aren’t always about fighting the good fight. As a result The Boys need to step in and keep an eye on the superpowered people who sometimes go too far and need to be taken out of the picture.
Bayer has previously made known his love of the comics, but it seems at the moment it’s Will Ferrell’s pal who’s in the hot seat.
