When it was first announced, the movie Protection was going to star Paul Walker with Simon West (Con Air) directing. Then it was Clive Owen with Patrick Alessandrin (District 13: Ultimatum) behind the camera. And now it’s all change again!
According to The Wrap, the comings and goings continue with Alessandrin and Owen both dropping out of the film, and Dwayne Johnson attaching himself to star. That’s has to be somewhat good news, as at least it means Johnson is going back to action after lame comedies such as Tooth Fairy.
The script for Protection, by Brandon Noonan, follows a disgraced former Special Forces soldier who takes on a Mexican cartel in an attempt to rescue and protect a judge’s 21 year-old daughter, who has been targeted for agreeing to testify against one of its members after she witnesses her father’s murder. The action will reportedly play out on both sides of the border.
It’s been described as a mix of Taken and Man On Fire, which sounds promising. Now all they need to do is get yet another director onboard.
