Seth MacFarlane is one of those guys who’s annoyingly talented, he sings, he acts, and as the creator of Family Guy, American Dad and The Cleveland Show, he signed one of the richest deals in American TV history, reportedly worth over $100 million. I don’t know whether to worship him or punch him on the nose for being so annoyingly good.
Now he’s taking a perhaps slightly overdue trip to the movie, with Deadline reporting that Universal has agreed to back Ted, an R-rated comedy about a man and his teddy bear, that will mark MacFarlane’s feature directorial debut. Seth co-wrote the script the script with Family Guy cohorts Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild. He’ll also produce and take an ownership stake in the film, as well as voicing the teddy bear (okay, now I’m leaning towards punching him – it’s sickening how much this guy does). Although not too much is known about the movie, it’ll presuably feature plenty of Family Guy comedy, although going to the extremes you’re not allowed to on TV.
The tricky part now is that while MacFarlane wants to shoot the live action/CG mix film this year, he’s got to fit that into his exhausting schedule on his animated shows. Seth is currently negotiating with the Fox network on how he might be able to do this.
Incidentally, if you’ve ever hoped for a Family Guy movie, that’s still on the cards, but MacFarlane will make Ted first.
