With Mathew Vaughn having just worked with Jonathan Ross’ wife, Jane Goldman, on Kick-Ass (and before than on Stardust), it was almost inevitable that at some point the director would be rumoured to be sniffing around Ross’ comic mini-series, Turf. However the rumour comes from a more reputable place than might be expected, The Guardian newspaper.
In an interview with Ross, they write, “Together the pair have created their very own comic, Turf, written by Ross and illustrated by Tommy Lee Edwards. Set in 1920s prohibition-era New York, it’s a high-velocity romp involving gangsters, vampires and aliens; issue one went on sale this week and is already on its second print run, the first 20,000 copies having sold out on pre-orders alone. There will be five further issues, a hardback collection and if all goes to plan a Turf movie made by Matthew Vaughn, the producer of Ross’s wife’s current hit comic-book film Kick-Ass.”
However, this hasn’t been officially announced just yet, and mayjust be hopeful speculation of the part of the newspaper or Ross himself, although he’s obviously better connected to the Kick-Ass director than most. Expect plenty more rumours on what Vaughn will do next over the coming few weeks.
