Tina Fey and Steve Carrell have reason to celebrate after their new comedy stormed to the top of the US box office after a fairly close race with Clash Of The Titans. Date Night scored a winning opening weekend of $27 million, while Titans dropped a pretty steep 57% from last weekend and into second place with a take $26.8 million. However that was enough to take it sailing past $100 million in America, once more justifying Warner’s decision to convert it to 3D.
Interestingly though, it’s believed a different film topped the box office on each day of the weekend, with Date Night winning Friday, Titans Saturday and How To Train Your Dragon soaking up the Sunday audience. However thanks to a massive roll-out on over 4,600 screens, Date Night won overall.
The only other new entry in the top 10 was Letters To God, which as you might have guessed is an inspirational Christian drama. However despite a decent sized release, it’s $1.25 million is likely to be seen as a dissapointment.
