On Monday we reported on rumours that Harrison Ford was going to sign up for Jon Favreau’s upcoming comic book movie, Cowboys and Aliens. Now those rumours have been confirmed by the director himself, who tweeted that, ‘Please stop asking if Harrison Ford is in Cowboys & Aliens. Okay? He is. Please dont tell anybody.’
There still no news on what role Harrison might play in the movie, which sees a bunch of cowboys and indians in the wild west having to stop fighting one another and team up to take on an alien invasion that descends on a small town. For a long time Robert Downey Jr was attached to the lead role of former Union Army soldier Zeke Johnson (indeed he was instrumental in getting the movie going to start with and bringing Iron Man director Favreau onboard), but he was forced to pull out due to scheduling conflicts with Sherlock Holmes 2 and has been replaced by Daniel Craig.
The screenplay for the film has been written by Star Trek and Transformers 2 scribes Reberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, alongside Lost’s Damon Lindelof, with shooting due to commence this summer. Olivia Wilde will also star. Cowboys & Aliens is due to be released on July 29th, 2011.
