While last year’s The Final Destination was presented by Warner Bros as being the last go around for the teen-horror franchise, apparently that’s not the case, as ComingSoon says the the studio has revealed at ShoWest that a fifth film is being readied. No, I’m not in the least shocked either.
Warner Bros. executive Alan Horn said virtually nothing about the movie, other than it was on the way, so we don’t know what the plot might be (other than the obvious – someone having a vision, escaping death and then the Grim Reaper coming after them), whether a screenwriter or director has been hired, or whether, like part number 4, it’ll be in 3D, although it”s a farily safe bet it will.
The reason Warner want another go around is that despite being almost universally panned, The Final Destination 3D grossed $180 million around the world but only cost $43 million to make. The franchise has also been a gargantuan home entertainment success, making a lot more money on DVD than it has in cinemas.
But as a personal plea to Warner, please can you actually put some effort into this one, as the first three were great fun, while the fourth plumbed new levels of crapness, despite some nifty 3D?
