Although it doesn’t look like he’ll direct, Steven Spielberg is reportedly shopping a hot script by former Today Show producer Noah Oppenheim around Hollywood, which is about the American cultural icon that is Jackie Kennedy.
Spielberg will produce the project, which the LA Times says examines the days immediately following the assassination of John F. Kennedy from Jackie Kennedy’s point-of-view. Although there was a massive outpouring of sympathy for her, she was also under huge amounts of pressure to lead the national mourning, despite having just seen her husband shot through the head in the seat next to her. Most looks at the period have concentrated on JFK himself, so it’d be interesting to see something based on his wife.
It seems at the moment that the film will most likely be a TV movie, with HBO a lead contender to buy the script so that can they can develop it as one of their event pics. Spielberg and the channel have a long history, having made the likes of Band Of Brothers and the upcoming The Pacific together.
