A couple of months ago it was announced that Martin Scorsese was planning to make his first children’s film, The Invention Of Hugo Cabret, which he’s planning to film in Europe this summer. Now Deadline is reporting that both Sacha Baron Cohen and Ben Kingsley are negotiating deals to appear in the movie.
The film, based on Brian Selznick’s book, is about an orphan who lives inside the walls of a Parisian train station in the 1930s, and must finish a quest his father started by solving the mystery of a broken robot. The lavishly illustrated book has won numerous awards, and the film version will reunite Scorsese with The Aviator screenwriter, John Logan.
Baron Cohen will play the role of the station inspector, while Kingsley will beGeorge Melies, the famous silent filmmaker who plays a pivotal role in the story. However, does this mean Scorsese is going to manage to make a film without Leo DiCaprio? Can they bear to be apart for that long? We’ll have to wait and see.
