Marcus Nispel is gearing up to shoot his Conan movie very soon (it starts filming in Bulgaria at the end of the month), and although he’s got his main actors in place, with Stargate: Atlantis’ Jason Momoa taking on the title role, he’s been having a bit more difficulty casting the Barbarian’s father.
Until recently Mickey Rourke was attached to the part. However The Wrestler actor had a bit of a scheduling conflict with Tarsem Singh’s War Of The Gods and so dropped out. Now Vulture is reporting that Ron Perlman has taken over the role. He will play Corin, who raises Conan as a single father and presumably gives him the training he needed to be the ultimate bad ass.
In other Conan news, THR is reporting Said Taghmaoui, who played Breaker in the G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, has booked a role in the film, playing a leader of thieves who is saved by Conan and later offers him aid. They also confirm that Avatar’s Stephen Lang will play the villain of the movie, a ruler in search of a queen whose blood will bring life to the demonic minions of a long-lost god. However, the THR report may give us pause over the Ron Perlman news, as they say the role is still open, however Perlman would seem a good choice and Vulture seems pretty certain..
