Although it’s taken a while for Alexander Payne to get another movie off the ground following the success of Sideways (a couple of film he was working on didn’t get the greenlight from the studio), he’s certainly lining up a great cast for The Descendants.
An adaptation of the novel by Kaui Hart Hemmings, the Hawaii set The Desendants tells the story of a wealthy landowner whose wife is in a coma and about to have her life support swtiched off, and so he takes his two daughters on a search for his wife’s lover in the hopes of keeping his family together and giving the other man a chance to say goodbye. Now that’s a forgiving husband for you.
George Clooney has already been announced for the main role of the husband, and now THR is reporting that Judy Greer, Beau Bridges, Matthew Lillard and Robert Forster have also joined the cast of the film, which starts shooting next Monday. Lesser known names like Shailene Woodley, Mary Birdsong, Nick Krause and Amara Miller will also be along for the ride.
We’ve waited a long time since 2004’s Sideways for Payne to make another film, but this certainly seems to be shaping up well.
