Robert Downey Jr. is in talks to star in Alfonso Cuaron’s long-in-gestation project, Gravity. The movie was initially set up at Universal, but they dropped it, before it got picked up by Warner. The studio is now preparing to greenlight the project, with the director busy rounding up actors to star in it.
According to Deadline, “Downey will play the leader of a team posted at a remote space station. While he and a female colleague are traveling outside the space station, the other team members are decimated by debris from an exploded satellite.” If previous plot synopses are to be believed, much of the time it will just be the man and woman alone on screen, desperately trying to return to Earth.
When the project was at Universal, Angelina Jolie was set to play the female lead, and while a few weeks ago it was reported she’d dropped Wanted 2 in favour of Gravity, she actually cut herself loose from both films, and so Cuaron is still is search of his main woman.
Gravity is due to shoot in London this summer, with Downey Jr. finished just in time to join Guy Ritchie on the set of the Sherlock Holmes sequel.
