Alice In Wonderland had a stellar second weekend at the US box office, producing the sort of numbers we normally only see at the height of the summer blockbuster season. It took another $62 million to push it past $200 million in only 10 days. Audiences do seem to love 3D films at the moment.
Alice rather left everything else trailing in its wake. Green Zone’s $14.5 million was enough for second place, but it’ll be seen as a massive disappointment by the studio, which spent over $100 million on the movie and was hoping for a big hit. However once again it seems movie goers are wary of movies about Iraq.
The comedy She’s Out Of My League hit the third spot with a passable but not exactly impressive $9.6 million, while Remember Me took fourth place with $8.3 million. While the people behind Remember Me might have hoped for a bit more money due to the amount of publicity the presence of Twilight’s Robert Pattinson gave the movie, it’s probably more than the drama would have made without the R-Patz buzz.
The only other new entry was Our Family Wedding at number 6. Although it $7.6 million might not seem much, it was about what the studio expected the culture clash comedy to make. The only other notable thing about the top 10 is that Shutter Island crossed the $100 million mark at the weekend.
