I don’t think this is news, as much as something that was going to happen whether we wanted it to or not. It’s just now it’s been made official. With the live action/CG Alvin and the Chipmunks making $361 million around the world, and then last year’s sequel notching up $436 million, another follow-up was a no-brainer.
Variety reports that Fox has now officially announced the movie, and surprise, surprise, it’s going to be in 3D! The studio has set a release date of December 16th, 2011 for the movie, a week before Spielberg’s motion capture flick, The Adventures Of Tintin: The Secret Of The Unicorn,
At the moment the film is called simply Alvin and the Chipmunks 3D, although as the second movie was a ‘Squeakquel’, don’t be shocked if this one gets a painful pun of a name as well.
