With the live action/CG version of The Smurfs schedule to start shooting in April, director Raja Gosnell is busy filling up his cast list. On Wednesday it was announced that Neil Patrick Harris would take the live action main human role in the movie, and now Variety reports that several others have signed up to lend their voices to the little blue ones.
Alan Cumming, Katy Perry, George Lopez and Jonathan Winters will all lend their voices to the film. Cumming will be Gutsy Smurf, singer Katy Perry will play Smurfette and Lopez (who is also currently attached to produce and star in a live action/CG Speedy Gonzales movie) is onboard for Grouchy Smurf. You may never have heard of Jonathan Winters, but the 84-year-old is a veteran voiceover artist who played several characters in the 1980s Hanna-Barbera Smurfs cartoons. In the movie version he’s gonna take on Papa Smurf.
As long as the script involves Neil Patrick Harris being put in a Smurf body and falling in love with Smurfette, I reckon this film is gonna cream Avatar at the box office.
