Keeping up with Angelina Jolie is a full time job. While the tabloids are full of what may or may not be happening in her private life, the movie press is constantly in a swirl about what film she’s possibly going to appear in. The latest flick she’s rumoured to be appearing in is Serena, for director Darren Aronofsky.
THR has the story, and says the duo are in discussion to take on Ron Rash’s 2008 period tome, which is about a new bride, Serena, and her hubby George, as they create a timber empire in the late 1920s. Although that doesn’t exactly sound riveting, things are enlivened by the fact Serena goes a bit Lady Macbeth, pushing her husband to commit ever more ruthless acts, and after learning she cannot have children, sets out to kill the child George had illegitimately.
The project is at the fairly early stages, with Aronofsky quietly shopping the movie around Hollywood. However, as both Jolie and Aronofsky are fairly well known for picking up and then dropping films before they go into production, don’t be shocked if this collaboration never happens.
In other Jolie news, you may remember last week we reported that Jolie had dropped out of Wanted 2, which killed the sequel, and was set to make Gravity for Alfonso Cuaron instead. Well it turns out only parts of that are true. She has indeed passed on Wanted 2, but apparently the sequel is still alive, at least for the moment. As for Gravity, EW says its not the lock for Jolie that it has been suggested it was, and that she may well have dropped that movie as well, meaning she has nothing lined up for when she finishes shooting The Tourist with Johnny Depp. Even the part of the story that said Gravity was now going to be made by Warner hasn’t been confirmed, although more news on the Cuaron film is expected soon.
