I think at the moment we should file this is the possibly dodgy rumour drawer, but IESB is saying that Warner Bros. has tapped Jonah Nolan, Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan’s brother, to make their new Superman movie, The Man Of Steel.
The suggestion is that Chris Nolan’s godfathering role on the new Superman movie was so that his brother could get the directing chair, but it does seem unlikely Warner would agree to allow a man who’s never directed a movie before to helm a film based on one of the most important franchises they own. It’s not impossible, but seems pretty unlikely.
Jonah Nolan isn’t a complete film virgin, as he wrote the story Memento is based on, and collaborated with his brother on the screenplays for The Prestige and The Dark Knight. He’s currently writing Interstellar for Steven Spielberg and is now said to be working with David S. Goyer on the third Batman movie. It’s still a long way from directing a big budget Hollywood movie though.
In other Superman news, it’s been revealed (via AICN) that while earlier this week it was reported Goyer was writing the movie with Jonah Nolan’s help, the people behind the film have said Goyer hasn’t been hired yet, although it does sound like he will be, but the deal hasn’t been signed.
