For someone whose face looks like it’s made of playdough, Mickey Rourke has had an impressive career resurgence in the past couple of years. A few months ago he was rumoured for the role of Conan’s father, Corin, in Marcus Nispel’s new take on the barbarian character. However it seems that the deal fell apart and both the actor and studio walked away.
However THR reports that both sides have now decided they want to make things work and have come back to the table to try and get a deal that Rourke is happy with. Although nothing’s been finalised, it’s expected Rourke will now take the role.
Meanwhile, Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Rourke is also being lined up for Tarsem Singh’s War Of The Gods, which Freida Pinto has just signed up for. In that film they want him to play King Hyperion, the ruler of Ancient Greece who does battle with the divines (Henry Cavill will play the main role of Theseus). However if he’s going to do both films, they’d better be fairly small roles, as filming on Conan is due to start in late March in Bulgaria (with Stargate: Atlantis’ Jason Momoa playing the title role), while War Of The Gods begins shooting on April 7th.
