It seems that Anthony Hopkins wants to take on Demonic Forces, as THR reports that he’s signed up to star in the supernatual thriller, The Rite. The movie, directed by Mikael Hafstrom (1408), is another one of those creepy movies that’s alleged to be based on a true story. It follows a disillusioned American seminary student who attends exorcism school at the Vatican and ultimately finds his faith through encounters with demonic forces.
Unsurprisingly, 72-year-old Hopkins won’t be playing the young student, instead he’ll an exorcism expert who uses untraditional methods to take on the supernatural nasties. Sound like it’ll be yet another of Hopkins’ recent roles, where he gets to phone the performance in and pick up a fat paycheque, with the filmmakers only wanting him to add a bit of gravitas and class to their movie.
However Hopkins does seem to have a bit of love of special effects and the supernatural at the moment, as he’s just released The Wolfman, is currently filming the role of Odin in Thor and now wants to take part in exorcisms.
There’s no news on when The Rite might start filming, although with Hafstrom’s Shanghai, starring John Cusack and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, hitting cinemas in the next few months, the director should have a free schedule fairly soon.
