It was only a few years ago that David Gordon Green was the toast of the arthouse circuit, making praised but little seen movie like George Washington, All The Real Girls and Undertow, but then came Pineapple Express and he went Hollywood in a big way.
He’s got the fairytale comedy Your Highness coming out later this year, is still planning to remake Suspiria and now it’s been announced he’ll direct The Sitter (he’s taking over from the previously attached Jonathan Levine), which Variety describes as a cross between Superbad and Adventures In Babysitting.
Jonah Hill has signed up for the lead role of a young man who gets suspended from college, has to move back home with his parents and is forced to look after the three wild kids who live next door.
The script, by Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka sparked a major bidding war last year, before landing at 20th Century Fox. However, I’m not sure if this is good news for Hill, as making comedies with cute kiddies is normally what you do when your career is on the skids. He probably doesn’t have to worry at the moment, but shouldn’t make a habit of it.
