It was a big night for The Hurt Locker, which took both Best Film and Best Director at the BAFTAs, giving it extra impetus as we move closer towards the Oscars. With screenplay, editing and cinematography awards too, it was a little bit of a Hurt Locker sweep. Most significant was Kathryn Bigelow’s Best Director win, making her the first female to pick up the award.
However the BAFTAs showed their usual Brit bias, with Colin Firth winning Best Actor for A Single Man and Carey Mulligan winning Best Actress for An Education.
However there were relatively few shocks, but it was good to see Duncan Jones pick up Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer for Moon.
And a special mention for the BAFTA fellowship going to Vanessa Redgrave, putting right the major injustice that despite an astonishing 50+ year Oscar-winning career in film, she’s never won a competitive BAFTA (she wasn’t even nominated the year she won the Oscar for Julia). So congrats to her!
Anyway take a look below for all the winners of this year’s BAFTAs, as well as the other nominees.
